The principal activity of the AFAT-CG Association is the sponsoring of Tibetan children living as refugees in camps located in Nepal. The Association works in close collaboration with camp officials and administrators. Sponsorship is always individual, and is used to cover the cost of a child’s school attendance.

The AFAT-CG Association was founded in March 1992 and now has 105 members, either sponsors or donors.

It finances school attendance for 48 children: 8 of whom live in Kathmandu, while the others live in three refugee camps situated around Pokhara. Many other children are still waiting to be sponsored.

While the association’s primary aim is sponsorship for education, it is also involved in equipment projects in the camps where pupils live. These can be either long-term projects, such as financing the clinic, or one-off financial support for projects such as paying the electricity or repairing the water supply so as to help families live in decent sanitary conditions. For all of these projects, donations and even simple membership fees are very helpful.

Unpaid volunteers from the association visit Nepal annually in order to survey the development of each programme. This will continue for as long as the political situation in Nepal allows.

More details are available on our programmes pages.
